Travel is the movement of people or objects (such as airplanes, boats, trains and other conveyances) between relatively distant geographical locations.
People traveling are called "travelers", or in some modes of transport "passengers".
Historically motivated by practical reasons (trade, exploration ...), the trip becomes the nineteenth century with the arrival of the tourist who travels for pleasure.
Motivations from there become more complex and rooted in history and myths in the literature (Marco Polo, Jules Verne, Robinson Crusoe, ...). The literature of adventure is growing strongly elsewhere in the nineteenth century.
However, along with the world "shrinks" as a result of rapid transportation, its identification in various forms (maps, images, information, ...) is growing, leaving less room for the surprise of traveler. Marc Augé speaks of the impossible journey, "one we will never do again, he that could help us discover new landscapes and other men."
Currently, the extension of travel is the problem of responsible tourism as well as climate change, transportation is a major contributor to the emission of greenhouse gases and moreover constantly increasing.
Travel may face administration, some countries like the GDR when the Soviet Union prevented some citizens to get out, other countries restricting entry of foreign travelers, in both cases, to avoid migration . This results in some cases by the need for establishment of specific documents by the relevant administrative services, such as an ID card update, to cross the border.
